Bought a 8010e series printer. Says i have to download the app.. fine... have to give it every single allowance... fine. then I have to connect to a wifi named set up something or other? it's not there. The only wifi showing up is one with the whole printer name in it, but nothing related to set up as the app tells me it will be. Except to even connect to that wifi i need some sort of password. There seems to be no physical buttons on this printer, whats wrong with a effing WPS button? I'm about to throw this thing out the window. Beyond frustrated. Why do i need a stupid app that doesn't even work.

WiFI setup video for 8010e
the printer supports both 2.4 and 5ghz bands.
OfficeJet Reference 8010e
I looked through the users manual an did not see any reference to WPS, the "push button" method of connecting to the modem. Page 34 explains how to connect directly to the printer from the PC and avoid using the modem.
If connecting to the modem make sure you disable WiFi direct.
Let me know if you have a flex system (WiFi boosters or repeaters) as the setup is much more complicated.

Hi @ElvenWarSmurf,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your frustration with the setup process. Setting up a new printer, especially when the instructions don’t match what you see, can be very frustrating. Let’s try to get your HP 8010e series printer connected without causing further stress.
Step-by-Step Solution:
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Unplug the printer from the power source for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- This can sometimes help the printer reset and broadcast the correct Wi-Fi network.
Forget the HP Setup Network:
- On your device (phone/tablet), go to the Wi-Fi settings and forget the "HP Setup" network if it’s listed there.
Try Connecting to the Visible Printer Network:
- The network you’re seeing with the full printer name is likely the correct one.
- If it’s asking for a password, try entering “12345678” or check the printer’s documentation to see if a default password is listed.
Use a Different Device:
- If possible, try using another device (like a laptop) to connect to the printer. Sometimes, phones or tablets can have issues with Wi-Fi setup.
Alternative Method - Use a USB Cable:
- Connect your printer to your computer using a USB cable. You can set up the Wi-Fi directly from the HP Smart app or the HP software on your computer. After connecting via USB, the software should prompt you to connect the printer to Wi-Fi.
Manual Wi-Fi Connection:
- On some HP printers, even without physical buttons, you can access the Wi-Fi setup by touching the display or navigating through the settings on the printer's screen (if applicable).
Try WPS Setup:
- Check your router if it has a WPS button. If the printer doesn’t have a physical WPS button, there might be an option in the printer’s settings or through the app to enable WPS mode, which you can then pair with your router by pressing the WPS button on the router.
Reset the Network Settings:
- If none of the above works, you might need to reset the printer’s network settings. This can usually be done by holding down the cancel button and Wi-Fi button together for about 5 seconds, or by checking the HP Smart app for a reset option.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
