Hi all
i was trying to setup my HP Envy 6530e for the first time. When I got to the installation of setup cartridges section, the printer didnt seem to be able to detect the cartridges despite me installing the ones that came with the printer. It kept asking me to install the setup cartridges and contact Support if it there’s any issue.
I’ve tried to turn on and off multiple times. Removing and installing multiple times and also tried to clean the gold tips on the cartridge and printer as suggested here under Troubleshooting but to no avail.
anyone else encountered this problem before? Appreciate your help and advice! Thanks in advance!

Hi @Thomas_soh,.
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Setup Cartridge Error!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Verify Cartridge Compatibility:
- Confirm that you are using the correct setup cartridges that came with your printer. These cartridges are specifically marked and should be used during the initial setup.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer. Avoid using alcohol or any cleaning solutions.
Reinsert Cartridges:
- Remove and then carefully reinsert the cartridges. Ensure that they are fully seated in their slots and the cartridge door is securely closed.
Check for Protective Tape:
- Ensure that any protective tape covering the cartridge contacts has been completely removed. This tape is usually colored and should not be confused with the electrical contacts.
Update Firmware:
- If your printer has any connection to the internet or a computer, check for and install any available firmware updates for the printer via HP's support site, as updates can resolve setup issues.
Reset Printer:
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer, wait about 60 seconds, and then reconnect it. Turn the printer back on and try inserting the cartridges again.
I hope this helps.
