During setup I filled each ink tank. I kept getting flashing K with ink drop message. Also would not connect to WiFi. When I went on 123.hp.com was taken to a site where I was virtually assisted. As I was being helped realized that it was a fraudulent site. After dealing with scammer and reseting all passwords and computer I know have a printer that is still flashing K and will not connect to WiFi. I got this printer because I just had my hp of 10 years quit on me. I am disappointed that I spent money on something that doesn't work. I tried to file a case number but each time I do I get an error message that says the service is not available and try again later. I am looking to have this resolved I am beyond frustrated.

Hi @MM521,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing a flashing "K" ink drop message and connection issues during the setup of your HP printer, you can follow these steps to resolve the problems:

Flashing "K" with Ink Drop Message.

Check Ink Levels

  • Ensure that the ink levels are adequate. The "K" indicates the black ink tank. Make sure it is filled properly. If you have refilled it, check again to ensure that the ink reaches the minimum level line.

Close Tank Caps Securely:

  •  Make sure that the caps on the ink tanks are closed tightly after refilling to prevent air from entering, which can cause issues.

Restart the Printer:

  •  Turn off your printer and wait for a few seconds before turning it back on. This can sometimes resolve temporary errors related to the ink system.

Establish WiFi Connection

Check Wireless Signal

  • Ensure that your printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router. A weak signal can cause connectivity issues.

Restart Router:

  •  Restart your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it for 15 seconds and then plugging it back in. This can refresh the connection settings.

Use HP Smart App for Setup

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from hp.com. Use it to establish the connection between your printer and your Wi-Fi network. Make sure your printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode.

Enable Bluetooth

  • If you are using a mobile device, enable Bluetooth to allow the HP Smart app to detect your printer during setup.

Check Your Network

  • Verify that your computer or mobile device is connected to the same network that you want the printer to connect to. If your network is operating at multiple frequencies (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), ensure you select the one compatible with the printer, usually 2.4 GHz.

Take care and have an amazing day!
