I am trying to set up my new HP Smart Tank 6000 printer. I have filled all the ink receptacles and need to move on to installing the printer heads. I keep getting a message that there is an ink that is not full. I see them all full. The ink bottles are all empty. I have done everything to try to get pass this. Does anyone know what I should do?

Hi @Alliterpe1959,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When setting up your new HP Smart Tank 6000 printer and encountering an issue where the setup won't move past filling the ink despite all the ink receptacles being full, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Verify Ink Levels Visually
Double-check the ink levels visually to ensure they are indeed full. Sometimes air bubbles or misreading can cause the printer to think the ink is not full.
- Open the Ink Tank Lid: Open the lid of the ink tanks and ensure that all ink levels are up to the maximum fill line.
- Check for Air Bubbles: Look for any air bubbles in the ink lines that might cause the printer to misread the ink levels. Gently tap the tanks to release any air bubbles.
2. Clean the Ink Sensors
Ink sensors might be dirty or obstructed, leading to incorrect readings.
- Turn off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Clean the Sensors: Open the ink tank compartment and use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the area around the ink sensors.
- Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions or dried ink around the sensors.
3. Perform a Printer Reset
Resetting the printer can sometimes resolve setup issues.
- Turn off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.Wait for 60 Seconds: Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug in and Turn on the Printer: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Retry the setup process.
4. Update Printer Firmware
Ensure that your printer firmware is up to date. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve setup issues.
- Connect Printer to Network: Connect your printer to your Wi-Fi network using the control panel.
- Check for Updates: Go to the printer’s settings and look for a firmware update option. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware if an update is available.
5. Use HP Smart App for Setup
Use the HP Smart app for a guided setup process. The app can provide more detailed instructions and troubleshoot issues during setup.
- Download HP Smart App: Download and install the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer.
- Open the App and Add Printer: Open the app, add your printer, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.
6. Reset Ink System
If the printer continues to show that an ink tank is not full, you may need to reset the ink system.
- Drain and Refill Ink Tanks: As a last resort, you can try draining the ink tanks slightly and then refilling them. Be cautious while doing this to avoid spilling ink.
- Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the printer.Disconnect the power cable.Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cable and turn on the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
