I just got this printer. It is supposed to go into Sleep Mode after 5 minutes (by default). So how can I tell if it has gone into Sleep Mode? The LED panel stays on and the wireless and USB lights stay on, plus the main power light stays on too. If it is not going into sleep mode how can I ensure it does? I have set the Sleep Mode delay to 5 minutes.

The reset worked. Resetting up the printer did the trick. Plus checked for new software.  (Already up to date.)

Hi@JackLS, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I noticed that you're experiencing sleep mode problems with your HP Officejet Pro 8210 e-All-in-One Printer. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

I see that you're connected to the network using a wired connection. There could be a problem with the settings or firmware. Follow the steps below to see if we can determine the cause.

Turn off IPV6 from the printer's front panel menu:

  1. Setup Menu
  2. Network Setup
  3. Advanced Settings
  4. IPV6, select Off.
  5. Reboot the router and printer.
  6. Allow the printer to go to sleep.
  7. Once the printer is asleep, tap the screen to wake the printer up.
  8. What were the results?

NOTE: If you receive an error that wireless is disabled when using a wired connection, temporarily unplug the ethernet cable and repeat the steps above.

If the problem persists, continue on.

Restore the printer to the original network settings

  1. From the printer control panel, touch Setup.
  2. Touch Network Setup.
  3. Touch Restore Network Settings.
  4. A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored. Touch Yes. Unplug the ethernet cable.
  5. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.
  6. Now, allow the printer to go to sleep.
  7. Tap the screen to wake the printer up.
  8. What were the results?

If the issue persists, try this reset and wait for the sleep mode to kick in.

Restore the printer to the original factory defaults

  1. From the printer control panel, touch Setup.
  2. Touch Printer Maintenance.
  3. Touch Restore.
  4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults.
  5. A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
  6. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.Touch Restore.
  7. What were the results?

If the issue is resolved there was either a glitch or Eco setting interfering.

If the issue persists, upgrade the printer's firmware.
What operating system are you running?

Depending on which OS you're running, click here to locate the firmware update.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
