Microsoft Windows 11

I bought a new desktop PC with Windows 11. Since I've been using the new desktop, printing on my HP deskjet 4155e has been very slow.

It's a great printer scanner, still relatively new.

I ran a diagnostic with updates (not the driver though). The printed page is fine but the printing is very slow.

Solution?

Thanks.

@Mpym, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 4155e was functioning well before switching to your new Windows 11 desktop, and now it's printing slowly. Let's go through a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and speed things up:

Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver (Very Important)

Even if the printer works, Windows might be using a generic driver, which can cause delays.

  • Go to the official HP driver page for the DeskJet 4155e: HP Support.
  • Download and install the full-feature driver/software package for Windows 11.
  • Restart your PC after installation.

Check the Connection Type

  • USB or Wi-Fi?
    • If using Wi-Fi, ensure your PC and printer are on the same network band (preferably 2.4GHz).
    • If using USB, try a different port or cable and avoid USB hubs.

Set the Printer to Print Directly

Sometimes the print spooler can cause delays.

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your printer and select Printer Properties.
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Enable Print directly to the printer.
  • Click OK and test print.

Turn Off Quiet Mode (if enabled)

Quiet Mode reduces noise but can slow print speed.

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Go to Printer Settings.
  • Look for Quiet Mode and turn it off if it’s enabled.

Disable Print Spooler Delays

Try resetting the print spooler:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
  • Right-click again, select Properties, and set Startup Type to Automatic.

Firmware Update (for printer)

  • Open HP Smart and go to Settings > Advanced Settings.
  • Look for Printer Updates or Firmware Update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I still need help!

I reinstalled the full driver/software package. Didn't improve on speed of spooling. I'm using a usb port printer to PC. With the new PC, there are few ports. I put the cable into a different usb port. It didn't make a difference. Unless it's color coded or particular, I use a port that fits the cable.

In each case, I printed a test page, no problem, just slower than before I bought my new PC.

The print directly to printer was a problem. The Enable Print directly to the printer was grey. Unable to choose it. What does this mean? I checked the paper size, etc, and chose general printing.

Could this be the issue? How do I make that option not grey-ed out? Thanks very much.
Please answer the above question about print directly to printer issue and it being grey/unclickable. Please don't tell me to do something I've already done. Thank you.
