Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I uninstalled the printer software back in May and then reinstalled to correct an issue I was having with my printer. It was solved for a bout a month and the the software started messing up again. I uninstalled it again and reinstalled to correct the issue and get my printer to recognize it was on the network and could talk to my computer. However what I didn't know at the time was that the HP all in one software was hanging around in my programs list, so when I reinstalled it put a second copy of the softwarre on my system. Then my printer would work for about a week before it started to try to connect to the ghost program. Now I can't uninstall the remnant and I know that reinstalling the software won't overwrite the ghost. How do I get rid of the ghost program?

Thank you for your reply.

Please perform a Microsoft Push Button Reset. This repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data.

Hope this works out. Let me know. Good luck! 🙂

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP Deskjet F4580 All-in-One Printer. I read that some part of the previous printer installation was still remaining the computer. THen you reinstall the printer again and this created another copy of the software on the computer. Now, you're unable to uninstall the remnant. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

Let us uninstall the printer drivers from the root level. This will erase all the printer drivers. etc. The following steps will help:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may download and install the printer drivers from this link

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. All the best! 🙂

I followed your suggestions, but the ghost installation remains. I found where it was listed as an imaging device and removed it, but the install location within the Apps and software section is still present even after the restart of the system that is supposed to remove it.

Thank you for replying with the results.

Could you scan your computer and check if there is any virus infection?

Also, check if the printer is able to print without any issues.

Good luck!

No viruses detected in three seperate scans beofore and after the attempt.  The printer is not able to print since there are no computers currently connected to it.

That did it. Now I have a new question. Is there a way to turn the on screen popup notifications off, without doing what they are asking?

Hi @Ryu_Alson, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned you need to know how to disable the notifications on your PC.

What notifications would you like to disable on your PC?

Follow these steps to enable or disable SNP from the Device Settings tab:

Open the Devices and Printers folder, right-click the HP UPD, and then select Properties.
Click the Device Settings tab.
In the Installable Options section, set Printer Status Notification to either Enable or Disable.
Click OK.
