After numerous times of reinstalling the HP drivers (many thanks to the forum members posting this solution), I still can't print.

I'm lost in the woods regarding this continuous issue with HP... so many threads on this subject, but I can't find any solution for this new issue I have.

Firstly, I got the same issues so many of us complaining about: warnings of malicious files when reinstalling the drivers and all. After a few times of deleting, restarting and reinstalling, these warnings ceded (small inner yay). But now, a new problem pops up: when I hit 'print', at first it seems to work. It says 'printing - 12% complete'. But after a few seconds, it stops and says 'printing - waiting for printer to become available'.

At every rerun (yes, I tried a million times, hoping this time it would just do the job), it stops at 12%

I tried to print a test page from the HP utility, that also doesn't work.

Any ideas? Or maybe this is discussed in another thread I missed?

Try this set/order below to get up and running again:

Use the HP Uninstaller: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02440673
If you still have a folder marked HP, delete it (likely here: /Library/Printers/hp ).

Use Easy Start ( https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-easy-start/7376041  - make sure your OS is correct) and see if your printer is supported. If not, or this doesn't solve the issue,  move on to the next steps.

Uninstall your printer USING THIS METHOD ONLY (NOT EASY START, NOT EASY ADMIN): Apple Logo (Upper Left of Screen)/System Preferences/Printers & Scanners. Then restart your computer.

See if you can print. If not, continue:
Download (and install) this package (From HP FTP) which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essen...
If the link comes up blank, try right/control clicking and saving it. Or right/control click and copy link, and paste into browser bar. If you get the malware warning part-way through the installation, go to System Preferences>Security & Privacy where you can tick a box and unblock the HP option.

The install takes a bit. Let it run, even if it seems like it stalled out! When it completes, restart.

Then reinstall your printer using: Apple Logo (Upper Left of Screen)/System Preferences/Printers & Scanners, and use the default drivers. If drivers do not show up, download and install the 5.1 driver package from here: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US . Then restart your computer.

Hi Bryan,

thanks for your suggestion. However, it didn't work. Through earlier threads I already found this solution, and it did solve some of the problems in an earlier state. Nonetheless, I followed your steps once again, just to be sure.

But the outcome is the same. No errors or other messages during installation or setting up, no messages about malicious files or missing software.

But when I hit print, the pop-up window says ' printing - printing page 1, 12% complete'. After a few seconds, the messages says 'printing - waiting for printer to become available'.

I can't even print a test page through HP Utility.

Any ideas? Thanks a million for your time!

Try uninstalling everything again, and before reinstalling, do this reset procedure on your printer:

https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-reset-an-all-in-one-hp-f380

Then reinstall the printer.

Let me know what happens!

Nothing changes. I followed all the steps. uninstalled everything, multiple restarts. After I install the Printer essentials and try to print, my Macbook says there's a necessary printer software update from Apple. When I install that update and try to print, it first displays the above mentioned 12% message and after a few seconds is says ' waiting for printer to become available' .... a bit frustrating.

Are you connected via USB or is this a network printer?

USB, it is an old model (Deskjet F380).
