I am annoyed to find that I am now supposed to log in to hp to use my printer. What if my internet is offline? Even when I tried, it won't take my normal hp login. I read the community pages and I am supposed to use different software if I don't like it, but none exists. I loved the other software, it stopped working because of what? I dont' know.. I did not willingly change to the SMART (ha!) app. And now I am without options.
I think it is time to move to another brand unless someone there can help. It is the OfficeJet 8610.

Hi @JAMandbutter,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
Click here for hp smart app and this should help.
If you want to scan, You may try Scan with HP Scan and Capture and see how it goes.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Elohi_NR -- The thing is, I HAVE the smart app, but I want to use it without having to log in! I cannot see any reason that I need to be logged in. What if I don't have internet access. Or simply don't want to log in every time I try to use the app??? The smart app was a less effective software than what came with the printer, but it worked okay. Now you've made that a serious pain in the neck.
As I mentioned, I am leaning so so so far away from buying any HP products in the future because of this failure to fully support products that are not the newest thing. What a waste to go buy another when this one works just fine. And the HP print and scan is so bare bones it is ridiculous.
The real question, you don't even begin to answer. What I would like to see, as a HP employee that you tell someone who can do something about it that your users DONT LIKE this need to log in to use the app and get them to make it go away.

I have no idea why you needed to send a private message to give me the HP support number. I called the number you gave me and once I had given the serial number, was able to talk to a live human who very nicely told me what I do not seem to be able to communicate here. To use my printer/scanner with any sort of effectiveness, I have to log in to HP Smart. I am not willing to log in every time I need to use my device. It is cumbersome and annoying.
It works fine with HP smart (with only a slight reduction in function from the original software) and there is no reason for it except for HP's willingness to put their data hunger before functionality for their customers.
HP Scan and capture, your suggested solution reduces my scanner capabilities to almost nothing.
All I am asking is to stop the need for login. It is annoying and I can promise you that if I have to replace my scanner to restore functionality, I will not, not, not ever, no never, purchase an HP product again.
