HP support does not recognize my (completely legitimate) product serial number for a Laserjet Pro MFP M277DW.  I cannot register the product (which I had already at one time registered) in my account to get support.

 

How can I contact an actual human being at support to resolve this issue?

Let’s walk through a few steps to help you connect with a real support agent and move forward smoothly.

 

Step-by-step to reach HP support:

Go to the HP Contact Support page:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/contact

 

Select “Printer” as your product category, then enter the product number instead of the serial number.

  • For the LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw, the product number is typically B3Q11A.
  • If you're unsure, you can find it on the printer’s label—usually on the back or inside the toner access door.

 

Click “Submit” and wait for the support options to load.

 

Choose “Get phone number” or “Chat” from the available contact methods.

  • If prompted to sign in, use your HP account credentials.
  • If the system still doesn’t recognize your device, select “My product is not listed” or proceed without registering.

 

Explain the issue clearly to the agent, including that the serial number is not being recognized and that the printer was previously registered.

 

Additional tips:

  • You can also try the HP Virtual Agent on the same page to request human support if the automated flow stalls.
  • If you’re signed into your HP account, visit your My Devices dashboard here:
    https://support.hp.com/in-en/my-hp/tools 
    From there, you can try re-adding the printer using the product number.

 

Troubleshooting serial number recognition:

If you’d like to double-check the serial number format:

  • It’s usually 10–12 characters, alphanumeric, and found on a white sticker.
  • Avoid entering spaces or special characters.
  • If using copy-paste, ensure no extra spaces are included.

I cannot seem to get these steps to work:

When I attempt this it fails one of two ways.

If not logged in, it will accept the product number and proceed.  But then I do not get any options to contact support.

If I do log in, it will not accept the product number and insists I have to input a valid serial number--even though "product number" is listed as an option to the right of the page.

 

HP web product detection cannot identify any product.

 

I don't see anywhere where I have this option:

  • If the system still doesn’t recognize your device, select “My product is not listed” or proceed without registering.

 

Can you please review these instructions and refine them in such a way that I will be able to contact support? this is really frustrating.
