HP OfficeJet Pro 9015
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I recently purchased and installed an HP Office Jet Pro 9015 printer. Now I get annoying popups from Symantec Endpoint Protection that it is blocking traffic from NTOSKRNL.EXE and svrhost.exe. Initially, when I hooked up the printer, i used windows to find the printer and install the driver. Everything worked great. This problem seemed to start up when i went to 123.hp.com and downloaded the HP Scan software because I wanted to scan documents to my computer. I was able to scan when I got it installed but the next time I tried to scan it said it could not communicate with the printer. The only way I could get it to work was to disable Symantec. I seem to have to do that to talk to the printer about every 3rd or 4th time I print or scan. When I check the security logs in Symantec, it is hard to decipher everything but it appears to  block incoming for  NTOSKRNL.EXE using rule "Block ICMPv6" and it appears to block outgoing for svrhost.exe using the rule "Block UPnP Discovery". I don't know enough about firewalls to just delete rules. Debating whether to uninstall all printer software and start over. Any help?

Hi,

Reinstalling the HP Software won’t help if Symantec Firewall blocks the communication, it will still block it after reinstalling.

I suggest contacting Symantec for help configuring the firewall software not to block the network communication between the HP Software and the printer, an exception rules needs to be configured within Symantec’s software.
