HP Envy 6122e All-in-One Printer

I have a brand-new HP Envy 6100e printer, installed on a PC running Win 11 Pro.

Recently I had to reset my PC. I have installed all updates.

I installed the printer using HP Smart from the HP’s website “get started”.

So, all drivers and the firmware should be up to date.

My problem is the printer prints two-sided prints the second page upside down.

I make sure, when printing, the printer is set to “print on both sides” and “flip on long edge”

Under printer properties >> device settings >> I cannot see anything about duplex printing. I have seen this, when looking for solutions, this should be enabled??

........Go to device settings and down here under installable options make sure the duplex unit is installed.....

Hi @Ria55,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that the second page of your two-sided printed document is coming out upside-down, this issue is often related to the binding or flip settings in your printer's driver.

I would request you to please follow the below steps.

Check the Binding Option:

  • Open the printer driver on your computer.
  • Navigate to the Finishing tab or the Layout menu.
  • Look for the binding options and ensure that you have selected the correct setting:
    • Long-Edge Binding: This setting is typically used for portrait orientation and means the pages flip like a book.
    • Short-Edge Binding: Often used for landscape orientation, pages flip like a calendar.

Adjust the Duplex Settings:

  • In the same Finishing or Layout menu, find the option that allows you to select "Flip on Long Edge" or "Flip on Short Edge".
  • Adjust this setting according to your desired page orientation and how you want them to flip.

Use the Correct Duplex Setup:

  • Make sure you have selected the appropriate two-sided (duplex) printing settings in your software application or printer driver.
  • If using automatic duplex printing, ensure that the media type and size support this feature.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello Pallipurath,

Thank you for coming back to me.

Could you be a little bit more precise where I can find all these settings. I am not very knowledgeable 😔

How do I open the printer driver on my computer?

Where is the Finishing tab or the Layout menu/tap or the Duplex Settings?

I have attached a couple of pics, incase I have found the correct setting tabs.HP 2.jpgHP 1.jpg

I have selected the two-sided (duplex) printing settings in the software application

I have set the printer to "Flip on Long Edge", as I mostly print in portrait.

Thank you

Ria

Hi @Ria55,

Thank you for responding.

To open the printer driver on your computer and access the Finishing tab or Layout menu where you can find Duplex Settings, I would request you to please follow the below steps and try once.

Open the Printer Driver:

Windows:

  1. Open the file you want to print from any software program.
  2. Click on File > Print.
  3. From the list of available printers, select your HP printer.
  4. Click on Properties or Preferences to open the printer driver dialog box. This name might vary based on the software you are using.

Mac OS X:

  1. Open the file you wish to print.
  2. Click File > Print.
  3. Select your HP printer from the Printer menu.
  4. Click Show Details or use the drop-down menus to adjust print settings as necessary.

Locating the Finishing Tab or Layout Menu:

  • Once the printer driver dialog box is open, look for the Finishing tab or Layout menu, which might also be found under different tabs such as Advanced or Paper/Quality, depending on your printer model and driver version.

Configuring Duplex Settings:

Windows:

  • Under the Finishing tab or a similar tab/menu, look for options such as "Print on both sides" for duplex printing.
  • To manually print on both sides, check for a checkbox like "Manual Duplex" or a similar setting.

Mac OS X:

  • After clicking Show Details in the print dialog, go to the Layout menu.
  • Look for the Two-Sided printing option and select the desired binding orientation.

Take care and have an amazing day!

If it physically prints on both sides of the page, your issue is not related to the installable options but is likely a conflict between driver and printer settings. Any chance you have landscape page orientation set when you should have portrait, or vice versa? Are you using a standard paper size?

Hello again,

I cannot find a Finishing tab or Layout menu, not under Advanced or Paper/Quality.

The printer is set to “Two-sided (Duplex)” printing.

“Flip on Long Edge”

I have portrait as layout.

The booklet printing is set to off. Is that right?

I have attached some pics of what I can see under the printer settings.

Thanks

Thank you for your reply.

It is still not working properly.

I am having difficulties with following your instructions as the layout of my printer property is very different to what you are stating.

I can follow Printer Properties, followed by Document properties. After that it is totally different….

There is no new window opening with multiple tabs you have mentioned.

I have provided quite a few screenshots of what I can see.

Thank you

Ria

Hello,

Thank you for trying to help. Hopefully, you are not going to be reprimanded for this. I am grateful for any help.

My printer is a recently bought HP Envy 6100. Am I mistaken in thinking software and drivers should not have an "older" style print dialog?

You said…” Depending on the printer model, some (new) printers now default to the HP Universal Printing style print dialog -- HP Universal Print is the dialog called (even) when the "Printer" is named as the model””.

Does that mean when I select HP Smart Printing to print a document, then select printer properties and it shows HP Envy 6100e series [HPIB597E7] as the printer I see the HP Universal Printing style print dialog?

There are two printers listed in setup under “printer and scanners”

  • HP Envy 6100e series [HPIB597E7] App is installed for this printer
  • HP Smart Printing

Default

When I select HP Smart Printing, there is an option to print on both sides, and I can also select the printer properties to select other settings as I have shown in previous screenshots.

When I select the HP Envy 6100e series for printing, I do not get the option to print both sided.

Only print on one side of the page or manually print on both sides.

When I click on printer properties, I get the message “Please wait for printer connection or cancel connection”. Nothing opens. In fact, when I click on print, it does not print. Not even a test page.

My problem is:

When trying to print more than one page the printer prints only half of the first page, retrieves the page, and then prints the second page, also only half of it.

The printer settings are set to portrait and normal margins.

Thanks,

"Select your Printer model name (as plain as available) and not HP Smart Printing"

      That does not work. HP.jpg

Clicking on printing does not start to print, even though it says the printer is ready
