A Deskjet Plus 4100 has been given to me. I performed a factory reset and the printer will no longer print as I'm getting a incompatible HP Instant Ink Cartridge error. I assume this is because the printer isn't registered for instant though the HP Smart App says it is - 'This printer is enrolled in Instant Ink'
I would like to take ownership of the printer and register for instant Ink.
if I try and register via this website - Find out if your printer is eligible for HP Instant Ink | HP Instant Ink (hpconnected.com)
I get to a screen that asks me to " press the Information and Cancel buttons at the same time" to print a Network Configuration page to get a code. However the page isn't getting printed because of the cartridge error. I did manage to print the Printer Information Page before I reset the printer so I know there is plenty of ink and the printer prints OK. How do I break this loop?

Hi,
Generally, when cancelling the HP Instant Ink enrollment the used ink cartridges had to be returned to HP and not intended to be used any longer:
- HP Instant Ink cartridges do not work after the end of your current billing period, and you are required to return them to HP. To continue printing after your billing cycle ends, make sure you have standard replacement ink cartridges ready to use in your printer. If you do not have the postage-paid envelope provided by HP, go to Recycle HP Instant Ink Cartridges to order an envelope.*

You may try adding the printer to the HP Smart app, logon to your account and check if you may enroll it from within the app by clicking the HP Instant Ink tile, if that fails I suggest purchasing ink cartridges (at least one as you may use the printer with single cartridge mode and then enroll to the HP Instant Ink service for future ink usage.

I've installed the smart app and clicked on the HP Instant Ink tile, but the message says that the printer is already registered for instant ink. However if I access the printer via it's IP address the Product Information page says - Tri-color HP Instant Ink: This cartridge can only be used in a printer that is currently enrolled in HP Instant Ink.
