HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi guru,

I have just bought this HP Color LaserJet Pro printer M283fdw.

Installed the software from 123.hp.com as in the booklet.

But the installed HP Scan app is too small to see!  How may I change the app to have the same font on my laptop like other apps and programs?

I know there are suggested solutions to change the font size in Windows settings (OS is Windows 11). But that change all fonts.

There is also suggestion of using the Magnifier, but that makes the font very crappy, though can see what to select to do the scanning.

Please let me know how to fix the app font size issue. How come HP app does not work like other app that size the font correctly?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are font size on the scan app is small, I am glad to assist you.

This seems to be a driver issue, follow these steps to fix the issue.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install the printer using HP smart app

Hi Sandytechy20,

Thanks very much for your replies and help. Your suggestion fixes the ''HP Smart''  but the not ''HP Scan'' app.

But I need the HP Scan app to do the scanning job that I need, to scan double sided documents into PDF from the feeder.

I couldn't find a way to do this with the HP Smart.

So could you or HP fix this HP Scan problem? Kinda disappointed and regretted because I have just switched from Cannon to HP.

Thank you in advance!

Please see my descriptions below.

1) All the HP apps and drives are now in Apps\Installed Apps in the Windows 11 OS in my latop.

2) After I uninstall all HP apps and device drivers from this ''Installed apps'' place, I tried to follow what you suggested by searching for Devices and Printers and run the printui.exe /s command. But there is no more HP instances in all.

3) Restart and install the HP Smart app that was in in your link from Microsoft Store.

4) Yes, the app and font are now scaled correctly. But it does not give me the scan feature that I want to scan double-sided document from the feeder.

5) So I followed the Method 1 in the manual that comes with this printer to download from '''123.hp.cm/laserjet''.

6) I select the full functionality to download all drivers.

7) It's the HP Scan that is the problem. The icon and fonts are too tiny to read.

The HP Smart is still scaled correctly.

Hi Sandy,
Thanks so much for continuing to help me.

Yes, this software does not have the tiny icon and tiny font issue.

1) But the duplex scan does not seem to work as well as HP Scan. It just ends after scanning the odd sides. No notifications to do another round. I went ahead to rotate and put in the auto feeder. Then I have to manually move the scanned pages to arrange the pages.

2) This software starts scanning before allowing me to change the scan settings. I have to cancel it then change setting to scan double sided.

Sigh, why HP software is just not user friendly?

Anyway really thanks for your help.

I have posted to ask for help on how to scan a document into computer as pdf from the control panel at the printer. There is not scanning settings for me to choose pdf or jpb. It's always scanned as jpg. But most of the time I want to scan document into pdf files. Could you please help me on this?
