HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The following error only occurs on our HP Laptop and Desktop.  Dell & Lenovo have no issues installing the full software package (HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One series Full Feature Software and Drivers - Version 40.11 - Jul 28, 2017).

Login as local administrator.

Administrator has Full Folder permissions. Folder ownership is set to SYSTEM.

After 1st failure, booted to command line to remove directory C:\Program Files\HP\HP OfficeJet Pro 7740

Same error occurs.

Tried the Basic printer driver pakage (HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One series Basic Driver - Version 40.11 - Jul 28, 2017)

Same error occurs.

We really don't need the fax driver or software, just the printer and scanner driver and software.  I captured the extracted setup files from the temp location. Is there a stand alone scanner setup executable?  Can the software be installed to a different folder?

Hi,

A such likely occur due to a user related permissions issue indeed as described.

Try the following steps and check if that may help:

  1. From the Control Panel select User Accounts and take a note of the exact username as listed.
  2. Right click the start icon and select Run, the Run dialog appears.
  3. Type spool and press OK.
  4. Right click the Drivers folder and select Properties.
  5. Open the Security tab.
  6. Press Edit.
  7. Press Add, type your exact username and click Check Name, then press OK.
  8. Check the checkmark under Full Control / Allow and press Apply, then press Yes.
  9. Confirm any prompt and press OK.
Note: you may see many prompts, press continue for each prompt till it ends.

Now try reinstalling the software and check if you may see any difference.

Please let me know the results,

Shlomi
