HP ENVY Photo 7155 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

The last firmware update for my Envy 7155 failed and now the printer will no longer boot or respond at all.  During the boot up sequence, the HP logo is displayed along with a progress bar with 7 small dots below it.  The first dot is filled in and the progress bar reaches the end.  At this point the printer stops doing anything.  I was hoping to do a manual FW update but the updater cannot communicate with my printer.  I was also hoping for a factory reset but can find no way to perform the reset.  I fear the FW update has bricked by printer for good.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi @larryadeck,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Envy 7155 is stuck in a firmware update loop, which can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can try to recover your printer:

1. Perform a Power Cycle

  1. Unplug the printer from the power source.
  2. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and try turning it on again.

2. Reset the Printer

Although you mentioned that you couldn't find a way to reset it, you can try a specific key combination:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Hold down the Cancel button (the red X) and the Wireless button simultaneously.
  3. While holding those buttons, turn the printer back on.
  4. Keep holding the buttons until the printer starts the reset process.

3. Firmware Recovery Mode

HP printers sometimes have a recovery mode:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Press and hold the Resume button (the button with a triangle inside a circle) while reconnecting the power cord.
  4. Continue holding the Resume button until the printer powers on.

4. Manual Firmware Update

If the printer responds to the previous steps:

  1. Download the latest firmware from the HP website onto a USB drive.
  2. Insert the USB drive into the printer (if supported) and follow any on-screen prompts.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Rachel571,

Thank you for the reply to my issue.  Unfortunately, the Envy 7155 does not have hard buttons you describe in steps 2 and 3 of your solution.  All the printer buttons are "soft buttons" on the LCD display.  The printer never boots up far enough for the GUI to be displayed.  I would like to try step 4 (manual FW update from a USB drive) but the only FW update I found on the HP site requires the printer to be reachable from my laptop via WIFI (which is unavailable because the printer does not boot up).  If you send me a link to the file needed for the manual FW update (your step 4) and I will give it a try!

Thanks for your help!
