My printer is stuck in the staring routine. When switching it on the noise from the mechanical system sounds normal. On the display you see the progress bar of the software starting routine when this one reaches the first 1/3 of the display the display blacks out for a second and the software starting routine begins again. Here the mechanical starting routine is not repeated. I can not reset the printer to factory settings as I am not able to enter the printer menus.

Is there a button short cut which can be used during startup routine?

I have already tried some

#3, #6, left error and cancel X

Non of it was working

Thanks in advance

Hi @GNPF,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw. Let's try to resolve it together!

  • Has the printer experienced any recent power surges or interruptions that could have caused this issue?
  • Have you tried performing a hard reset by unplugging the printer for an extended period, say 10 minutes, before powering it back on?
  • Are there any error codes or unusual lights blinking on the printer when it attempts to start up?

Let's try these steps.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source and leave it unplugged for at least 10 minutes. This can help reset any temporary issues with the printer's startup process.
  • After waiting, plug it back in and try turning it on again.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • With the printer powered off, press and hold the "Cancel" button (X) and the "Power" button at the same time.
  • Hold both buttons for about 15-20 seconds and then release.
  • Try powering the printer on again to see if it bypasses the startup issue.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Even though the printer is stuck in the software routine, check for any paper jams or obstructions in the printer. A hidden paper jam could trigger a system failure during startup, though it may not always display an obvious error code.

Disconnect All USB and Network Connections:

  • If there are any external devices connected to the printer, such as a USB drive or network cables, disconnect them and try restarting the printer. Sometimes, external devices can cause the printer to get stuck in the boot process.

  • If the issue persists after performing these steps, it's a good idea to contact HP support. It could be related to a deeper hardware malfunction that requires service.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
