I have an Officejet Pro 6830.  I get an error message that indicates there is a paper jam, but there is none.  When I open the lid to replace ink cartridge the printer head will not return to the center to allow access to the ink .

Hi @Murphee01,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing an issue with your Officejet Pro 6830 printer. When the printhead doesn't return to its position to allow access to the ink cartridges, it could be due to various reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the problem.

  • Turn off the printer: Start by turning off the printer and unplugging it from the power source. Wait for about 1-2 minutes before proceeding.
  • Open the printer cover manually: Look for any small levers or tabs around the printer's printhead area that might allow you to manually move the printhead back to the center position. Gently move the printhead to the center if you can access it this way. Be cautious not to apply excessive force.
  • Check for obstructions: Inspect the area around the printhead carefully. Sometimes, small pieces of paper or debris might be blocking the printhead's movement. If you see any obstructions, carefully remove them.
  • Restart the printer: Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on. The printer may recalibrate itself during the startup process, and the printhead might return to its position.
  • Perform a reset: If the issue persists, try performing a reset on your printer. The steps for resetting may vary based on the printer model, so refer to your printer's manual or the manufacturer's website for specific instructions on how to perform a reset.
  • Update firmware/drivers: Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause unexpected issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
