I can't run fix and diagnostics to see why my printer continues to say it's online

@hry21724, Welcome to HP Support Community. 

 

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you. 

If the wrench icon (Fix & Diagnostics) is missing in the HP Smart app on your desktop, you’re likely using a version of the app where HP has either:

  • Moved or removed certain tools (like Fix & Diagnostics), or
  • There's a bug or glitch in your specific installation.

Here’s how you can resolve it:

 

Check for HP Smart App Updates

  • Open Microsoft Store → Library → Check for updates.
  • Update HP Smart if available.

Reinstall HP Smart (Clean Install)

  • Uninstall HP Smart:

Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find HP Smart, and uninstall it.

  • Remove leftover files:

Press Win + R, type %appdata%, and delete the HP Smart folder (if it exists).

  • Reinstall HP Smart:

Download it fresh from the Microsoft Store.

Try HP Print and Scan Doctor (Alternative)

Since the Smart app is inconsistent:

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows.
  • Run it to detect and fix common issues with printer connectivity and status.

Check Printer's Network Status

Sometimes, the issue is in network settings:

  • Make sure the printer is on the same Wi-Fi network as your PC.
  • Print a Wireless Network Test Report
    On the printer: Hold Wi-Fi + Info button to print the report.
