HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently bought this printer (HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw).  After unboxing it I saw that Tray 2 (the one on the bottom) doesn't completely close, it's just a few millimeters away from being able to close all the way.  When I power on the printer I get an "All Trays Empty" error message. I tried taking the Tray completely out and reseating it multiple times, both with and without paper, but it won't go in all the way.  I actually have another M479fdw so I grabbed the Tray 2 from that printer and had the same problem.  I can use the Tray 2 from the printer I just got into my other one and it fits just fine, so the issue is with the printer and not the Tray.

If I push my thumb on the Tray just below the printer name for a few seconds the printer will register it being there and the error goes away, but once I pull my thumb away the error returns.

I don't see anything in the printer obstructing the Tray so I am not sure what exactly is wrong with it that I can't get the tray to sit correctly in the printer.

With that gap it almost looks like the paper tray rail is not seated properly in the body of the printer, however the interior pictures do not make it obvious. If the device is brand new I would get the vendor to replace it if you cannot find a easy resolution.

Unfortunately I bought the printer used and there is no longer an active warranty with it.

With the gap there has to be an issue with the tray rail on the right side of the tray cavity.
