Hi All,
I reinstalled the Envy printer. I tried to uninstall several old printers and associated software. The uninstalls did not complete successfully. When I reboot the installer can't find TrayApp.msi and C5500.msi files. There are multiple error messages.
I have worked on this for quite a while. I tried installing Photo Essentials and then uninstalling in an attempt to load TrayApp. But these tries were all unsuccessful.
Which software packages include TrayApp?
I tried the HP Print and Scan Doctor with no luck.
Is there some way to just delete the old installation files and stop these processes? I don't have original installation CDs.
I had several old HP printers installed on this computer and I don't know which one is causing the problem. It may be more than one.
Thanks,
Barry

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Thank you for the instructions!
I was able to solve this another way based on advice on other websites.
I tried to reinstall the C5500 printer software but I got a USB error. The advice was to delete usbready.exe from the installation folder. This worked and the printer software installation completed.
Next another site said to manually search for TrayApp.msi in the newest temporary folder beginning with 7z. I had previously done searches of C drive but could not find Trayapp for some reason. After the C5500 installed, I was able to find TrayApp in the newest 7z folder in the setup subfolder. The path is something like: C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp\7Zxxxxx\setup.
When the error messages appeared after a reboot, I was able to insert the correct paths to TrayApp.msi and C5500.msi; the installations then finished successfully.
I was next able to uninstall the C5500 and that completed successfully. It automatically uninstalled the associated Photosmart Essentials software.
All is good now!
Thanks,
Barry
