Printer is connected to main router. Not sure why getting rid of the extender would effect computer connected via ethernet but okay....I tried it and it had no impact. Ping is still 100% failure...

I suggest you reset the printer's network settings back to default

  1. Touch the Setup (wrench) button on your printer control panel
  2. Right arrow to Network and select OK
  3. Right arrow to Restore Network Defaults and select OK
  4. Hit YesRestore Network Factory Defaults

Next run the wireless setup wizard to connect your printer back to your network

1. Write down your network name (SSID) and WEP key or WPA passphrase.

2. Start Wireless Setup Wizard. a. Press the Wireless button. b. Highlight Wireless Setup Wizard and press OK. The setup wizard searches for available networks, and then displays list of detected network names (SSIDs).

3. Highlight your network name and press OK.

4. Follow the prompts on display to complete connection.

5.. If the connection to the network is successful, the blue wireless light on the Wireless button should come on and remain steady. If it is blinking, this indicates that connection to the network is not a good.

Try printing and let me know how it goes

Thanks Krazytoad and everyone else.  The problem has mysteriously been solved. Here's what happened:

I noticed that the printer's URL was different from the printer URL in my router's "allowed devices" info.  Fortunately, when I reset the printing system again  to try one of the prior solutions again, the printer's URL changed to the one that matched my router.   (I verified this by trying to open the old URL in Safari; it wouldn't open. The new one that matched the router's URL did).  Network utility then returned a ping test to the new URL with no packet loss. Since then, I was able to print and scan with no problem.  Any idea how this might have happened in this first place?

One detail I forgot:  I also reset the printer by unplugging and replugging.

In the course of troubleshooting, the IP address of the printer might have changed. Performing a reset would've resolved the communication issues.

I am glad that the issue is now fixed.

It seems my problem was solved only temporarily, and the issue exists with all of our computers.  My wife added a new printer driver today without issue and printed one page.

When she went to print the next page, she got the error message "printer is not connected" from the printer app.   We tried getting the computer on the same network as the printer, but that didn't help.

The network light on the printer is solid.

I opened Network utility and got 100% packet loss pinging the printer's URL.  I was also unable to open the URL in safari.

Then, she sent the document to me and I tried to print from my mac mini, which is connected to the network via ethernet; I got the same result.  Tried pinging with network utility and also got 100% packet loss with request time outs and "send to: Host is down".   Also couldn't connect to the printer's URL.  Finally, after about 10 minutes (I never cancelled the print), the document printed.

FYI, the printer does show up on my router's list of attached devices.

Obviously, this is a pretty persistent issue and I'm at a total loss as to how to solve it or why it's happening at this point.

I went through the case and noticed that when you pinged the printer, you have used: 192.168.17 as the IP address which I guess was a Typo error. (In the screenshot attached by you)

The IP address of the printer according to the EWS page is 192.168.1.17 and hence the 100% packet loss.

Could you please check the same and try to ping and check what happens?

Have you tried restarting the Network devices?

Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer

Wait for 60 seconds.

Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.

Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.

Turn on the computer

If the above steps do not help, resetting the printer to its factory settings and then re-connecting the printer to the network may help.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Thanks Kumar.  The printer address actually changed during the troubleshooting (think I mentioned that in a prior post).  I have tried all the troubleshooting steps you mentioned.  Today is the first time I've tried printing in a while and it worked.  There was just a router firmware update installed, so maybe that helped. Next time it goes down I will do a reset to factory settings .

I am having the same issue as the person that was getting some direction, and I am trying to reset my printing system - my troubles all began with my new Apple running on Mojave as well.

I am trying to connect to my home system and do not know where to find the WEP or WPA passphrase??

I would appreciate some direction.
