End goal: Enforce secure printing and having users enter a unique code (pin or password) to retrieve their print job.
Current environment
Printer: M855
Driver: PCL6 version 61.163.01.20484
Firmware: Futuresmart 4 version 4.11.2.3
Desktop OS: Windows 10
My office wants to set up an environment that enforces a system where users have to personally claim their own print jobs. I have been able to get pin-to-print to work on an individual level through my own computer and account. The three issues with that is 1) scalability through hundreds of employees 2) the username and pin look like it would be universal as opposed to unique to the user (the goal is people can only claim their own jobs), and 3) it doesn’t appear to be forced as the user can just change the setting in preferences to have it print normally. I noticed the the “Encrypt job with password” option seemed to take away establishing a single username for all and required a password to be set up by the user as they try to print the job. While this option would be perfect for my situation however, when I try applying those changes and printing, it causes the printer to restart (sometimes saying driver error 49.38.07, sometimes restarting with no error) and will drop the job after restarting. I believe all software and firmware involved is up to date and am not sure if there is anything else required in terms of settings or software to make it work. The hope is to be able to get this running with everything currently installed on the machine, but if some other software if necessary then I can run that through to get evaluated to be added to the network.
So right now I’m looking for a way to use encrypt job with password without the printer crashing and make it mandatory, or utilize pin-to-print while having the login information be different per user and be done in a scalable, enforceable way.

Update: The closest I have gotten is to set the default printing to PIN-to-print for personal jobs. In the Embedded Web Server (ESW) I went to the security tab, into the Protect Stored Data section, and scrolled down the Managed Stored Jobs. I have "Allow new jobs to be saved in Job Storage" and "Require all PINs to be four digits". Originally I thought checking "Cancel all print driver jobs without PIN protection" would prevent users from turning off the secure printing settings, however it ends up cancelling all jobs everyone attempts to print even with they are PIN protected. The printer panel will always say the job was cancelled due to a lack of PIN, but it is failing to detect that a PIN was set for the job.
Bottom Line: The "Cancel all print driver jobs without PIN protection" setting in EWS doesn't function properly (instead cancels all jobs with or without PINs), and if there is a way to fix it, then a forced pin-to-print environment could be achieved.
