- Trying to print 3x5, and there’s no custom option.

I want to print something onto 3 x 5 notecards, but it isn’t giving me the option.
I looked up the specifications of the printer, and it says it does “3x5 custom”, but there’s no way for me to make a custom size. I read multiple posts from these forums and none seemed to fix it, including following a guide on how to make a custom form in the Print Server Properties, but that doesn’t show up as an option in the actual print preview page (nor do many on the list in the print server properties.)

You are welcome.
Some browsers really don't like local address URLs.
Others will complain but let you "override" and get in.
Try a different browser.
EWS > HP Document / How-to
Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
NOTE: Find printer IP address
Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

Welcome to the HP Community --
There are indeed indications that the printer supports the paper size.
The paper type might be restricted to Index paper (200 gsm).
Product Specifications for the HP DeskJet 2729 All-in-One Printer (7FR54D)
Partial Excerpt - section Paper Handling
Media sizes, custom (metric) | 89 x 127 to 215 x 279 mm |
Media sizes, custom (U.S. standard) | 3 x 5 to 8.5 x 14 in |
Media types | Plain paper, Photo paper, Brochure paper |
Media weight supported (metric) | A4: 60 to 90 g/m²; HP envelopes: 75 to 90 g/m²; HP cards: up to 200 g/m²; HP 10 x 15 cm photo paper: up to 300 g/m² |
There are a couple of reasons why the custom paper size, -- even marked as supported -- is going to present significant challenges when you try to print on the tiny paper.
The printer does not support Borderless AND the printer requires a larger margin along the bottom edge of the paper.
Bottom margin: 12.7mm (1/2 inch)
On a 3x5 inch Index card, the margin limitation leaves very little room for adding text or image content on tiny paper.
Borderless Printing | No |
Print Margin Bottom (A4) | 12.7 mm |
Print Margin Left (A4) | 3 mm |
Print Margin Right (A4) | 3 mm |
Print Margin Top (A4) | 3 mm |
There is no software, firmware, or alignment that changes the larger margin requirement.
The solution is to keep all data inside of 1/2 inch on the bottom edge. This includes all page numbers, footer information, or other notations.

What else?
I am not at all sure how -- or whether -- you can tell the printer about the custom sized paper.
Normally paper size / type adjustments are entered in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
The size, if it can be added, would be set / added in the section for "Small" paper.
EWS – Tray and Paper Management

Thank you for replying! For some reason I’m unable to access the EWS? The papers I printed out say it’s connected, and I’m not using a proxy server, but I keep getting the error that the site can’t be reached.
