Smart Print 7005

Trying to print a photo on 100x148mm paper on new printer but image is placed too high on the paper - top is cropped and large 1.5cm margin at bottom. I does the same from my macbook and from my phone. I set up the correct paper settings and the heads are aligned.

Welcome to the HP English Community --

That is a very small paper -- and, at least when translated to inches / Imperial, it's an odd shape:

3.9 X 5.8 inches

The closer imperial equivalent is 4x6 inches.

If the shape of the original image does not match the shape of the paper, the image might not be placed as (or where) you expect.

Not sure about Mac --

HP Smart - Mobile - iOS provides enough options to select the source (tray) and to "fit" the image to the supported paper size.

Perhaps that will be enough.

Hey there!

Thank you for your reply!

In Europe we don't use imperial units so 10x15 cm is a standard for a photo and should be the equivalent of the 4x6'' one.

This printer doesn't have a separate tray for the photo paper, you need to adjust the main one to the size of the paper, which I did. It could shrink even more to fit smaller paper than this one.

I have also adjusted the correct size within my printer settings. I tried both from my Macbook and my phone and both times it was printed the same way.

You are welcome.

Got it.

10 X 15 cm  (4x6 inches)

The next places to check include the image shape, the paper, and the printer itself.

The following are ideas to consider.

One thing to try if you can spare the ink,

Print a different picture, perhaps in black and white, on plain paper.

Choose a picture that includes just enough detail that you can judge the results.

No need to print a dense, detail packed image.

If that seems like a bit much or a waste of your time, save that idea for later after other checks have been cleared.

========================================

Image Shape

Image shape as compared to the shape of the paper is the Aspect Ratio -- Printing outside of the image's original shape might cause odd cropping but would not necessarily cause the print to start too soon, that is, chopping the top and leaving a margin on the bottom.

========================================

Paper Type, Condition, and Weight

In general, photo paper that is too heavy might (if it worked at all) print "late" -- not the issue this time.

Most printers cannot be fooled into accepting a photo paper setting unless you are actually using photo paper.

The printer supports a variety of paper types, though not all types are supported in all sizes.

Paper at this size is likely photo paper, High-grade paper of this size and type is supported in glossy to 250 g/m².

----------------------------------------------------------------

Dragon Comments - Rhetorical

Sure, the printer "likes" HP paper -- it should print on high-quality paper of other brands as long as the paper is in good condition and the printer can recognize the print size, type, weight, and print surface (glossy).

Economy or "Brand X" lower quality paper might print or might catch, slip, not print, print odd colors, smudge, or curl.

Ink is expensive - don't waste ink on cheap, too dry, too damp, curled, or otherwise unsuitable paper.
