Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have a 2540Hp all in one, and has worked flawlessly until recently. All of a sudden I get a error saying there is no USB connection. I tried my  devices in the USB port I had my printer connectoed to and they worked just fine. I moved my printer ISB to another port and it didn't work. I tried a new USB cable, updated my drivers, ran a full diagnostic and the virtual assistant was a joke. Could the port at the prnter have gone bad and it's time to get a new printer?

I understand that you're facing a USB connection error with your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer on Windows 10 (32-bit). let's try some troubleshooting steps before throwing in the towel:

1. Double-check the USB connection:

  • Ensure the USB cable is firmly plugged into both the printer and your computer.
  • Try a different USB port on your computer,
  • Verify the cable isn't damaged. Use a known-good USB cable from another device to test.

2. Restart your computer and printer:

  • Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Power off both your computer and printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then power them back on.

3. Update Windows and printer drivers:

Update the printer firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating the printer firmware

4. Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • This free tool from HP can diagnose and fix various printer-related issues. Download and run the doctor to see if it can identify and resolve the USB connection problem.

  • Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with Printing and Scanning related issues

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
    • If there is a scanning problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

5. Check for conflicting software:

  • Occasionally, other software like security programs or virtual machines can interfere with USB connections. Try temporarily disabling them to see if it makes a difference.

6. Reset the printer:

  • Consult your printer manual for specific instructions on resetting your Deskjet 2540. This can sometimes clear internal settings that might be causing the issue. User Manual

Additional tips:

  • If you're using a USB hub, try connecting the printer directly to your computer's USB port.
