HP Recommended

I have been trying to get the 4301 printers to print files from usb thumb drives. A few drives and a few 4301’s and they doesn’t see the drive other than to be for a firmware upgrade. Is that all the usb port is good for on the 4301?  These drives have no issues with the M283’s, the 4101, the super tank 7001 and 7602. As well as any OJP with a usb ports. 
I looked for answers but so far I can’t find anything under the settings tab.
