Hi,
I am trying to setup the printer, I have managed to connect it via wifi but everytime the printer sleeps ( Max awake time is 15mins) when it wakes up the wifi connection is lost and it wont print as its not connected.
I am unable to reconnect it, I have to remove the printer and then go to all the steps again
Also when I want to scan directly to the computer, it says to install HP Scan which I have, but in the software when i try to connect the printer through wifi, it doesnt let me, there is no indication on the Printer whether it tried to connect or not
Please Help!!!

@Fog12, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Officejet Pro 9730!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Here’s how you can resolve both issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730 Wide Format All-in-One Printer on Windows 11:
Issue 1: Printer Losing Wi-Fi Connection After Sleep
This happens because the printer's power-saving mode might be turning off the Wi-Fi module or your router is not maintaining the connection.
Set a Static IP Address for the Printer
- Open the HP Smart App or access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing the printer's IP address in a web browser.
- Go to Network Settings > Wireless (Wi-Fi) > Advanced Settings.
- Set a Static IP instead of DHCP. (You can assign an IP that matches your router's range, e.g., if your router is 192.168.1.1, set the printer’s IP to 192.168.1.100).
- Save and restart the printer.
Disable Printer Sleep Mode (or Increase Sleep Time)
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Power Management.
- Set sleep mode to a higher time (if adjustable) or disable deep sleep.
Check Router Settings
- Log in to your router settings.
- Enable IP Address Reservation for the printer’s MAC address.
- Ensure Wireless Auto-Disconnect (if enabled) is turned off.
Update Printer Firmware
- Go to HP Support and check for firmware updates.
Use a Wired Connection (as a Last Resort)
- If Wi-Fi remains unstable, connect via Ethernet or USB to ensure a consistent connection.

Unable to Scan Over Wi-Fi (HP Scan Not Detecting Printer)
This might be due to a communication issue between the HP Scan software and the printer.
Verify HP Scan Software is Installed Correctly
- Uninstall HP Scan and HP Smart, then download the latest versions from HP’s website and reinstall.
Check Windows Firewall & Antivirus
- Open Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Allow an app through firewall.
- Ensure HP Scan and HP Smart are allowed on both private and public networks.
Manually Add the Printer in HP Scan
- Open HP Scan > Click Add Device.
- Enter the static IP address you assigned earlier.
Enable Webscan (Alternative Method)
- Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP in a browser.
- Navigate to Scan > Webscan and enable it.
- You can now scan from your browser instead of HP Scan software.
Final Steps
- Restart your printer, router, and PC after applying these changes.
- Try printing and scanning again to confirm the issue is resolved.
Let me know if you need further help! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
