M751

We have several HP ColorLaserJet M751 printers.  On one of them, we are unable to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) or manage it in HP Web JetAdmin (HPWJA).  We've tried both http and https.  Also tried several different browsers.  We are able to add it to windows and print to it.  We are also able to ping it.  We have tried the following

  • Changing the IP
  • Trying EWS from a machine on the same subnet
  • Reset to Factory (twice - apparently, this does not reset all settings)

When I compared the status to a working M751 via config sheets I noticed on the one we can't access EWS on that Secure Web was set to Disabled and Cert Expires was set to Not Applicable and Cert Type was also set to Not applicable.  On the working one Secure Web was set to HTTPS required, Cert expires was set to 2028-02-12 16:24 UTC and Cert type was set to RSA.  On the working one's control panel there was a setting under Security for Secure Web.

and then

MicrosoftTeams-image-3 copy.jpg

but that setting did not exist on the non-working one.

We were able to find a button to reset security settings and changed Secure Web to HTTPS required but Cert Expires was still  Not Applicable and Cert Type was also still Not applicable

I did see some suggestions to reload the cert but those said you need to telnet into the printer and upload it but telnet is either not working or disabled on this printer.

I'm thinking the missing cert on the JetDirect card is what is causing the communication issues but I don't know how to fix it.  I have opened a case with HP Support but that was the usual, factory reset, upgrade the firmware . . .  He also suggested a Partial Clean? so to dot the I's and cross the T's I'll try that and also upgrading the firmware.

I realize the printer is working but I need to be able to manage/secure it remotely via EWS and HPWJA

Thanks for any help!

When we run into this issue we will perform a partial clean from the preboot menu and that usually cures the issue.
