HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer

I had my 4620 set up to use my cable wifi, and it was working great, but I decided to change to a new Tmobile wifi, but it's unable to connect the printer to the network. I followed the instructions, restored the default settings, used the HP Smart app, clicked on 'Set up printer,' entered my password for my wifi, and as it's trying to connect, it switches the wifi connection on my laptop to 'HP-Setup-C5-Officejet 4620,' but then a window pops up that says it's unable to connect to network.

I still have the cable wifi active, so I unplugged it while I tried this so there was no confusion which wifi to connect to. And when I tried to reconnect it to the original cable wifi (after unplugging the Tmoblile wifi), I got to the same point where it wouldn't connect. So now it won't even connect to the original wifi.

Hi @Eli105,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble changing the Wi-Fi setup for your HP Officejet 4620 printer, there could be several reasons for the issue. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Check the Basics:

  • Make sure your printer is powered on and connected to a power source.
  • Ensure that you have the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password handy.
  • Verify that your computer or mobile device is also connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want to set up the printer on.

Printer Display Panel:

  • On the printer's control panel, locate the "Setup" or "Menu" button. Press it to access the setup menu.
  • Navigate through the menu using the arrow keys and look for a "Wireless Setup" or "Network Setup" option.

Wi-Fi Setup Wizard:

  • In the setup menu, select the "Wireless Setup Wizard" or a similar option.
  • The printer should then scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Choose your network from the list.

Enter Wi-Fi Details:

  • If prompted, enter the Wi-Fi password (WPA/WEP key) for your network.
  • Double-check that you've entered the correct password.

Confirm Connection:

  • Once you've entered the password, the printer will attempt to connect to the Wi-Fi network. This may take a minute or two.
  • Your printer should display a message confirming that it's connected to the network.

Test the Connection:

  • To ensure the setup was successful, print a network configuration or status page from your printer's control panel. This page will show the current network settings.

Software Installation (Optional):

  • If you haven't already installed the HP printer software on your computer, you may need to do so. The software can help manage your printer settings and troubleshoot any issues.

Reboot and Retry:

  • If the setup fails, try restarting your printer and the device you're using to set it up (computer or mobile device). Then, go through the setup process again.

Router Settings:

  • Sometimes, Wi-Fi setup issues can be related to router settings. Ensure your router is not blocking the printer from connecting, and that it supports the type of security (WPA, WEP, etc.) you're trying to use.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
