Deskjet Ink Advantage 2337
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Bought a Deskjet Ink Advantage 2337, but I am unable to use it since it can't be detected by my laptop (MacOS Big Sur Ver 11.3). I did the following:

1. Installed HP Smart app in my laptop. Searched for the printer via connected USB cable. Clicked on Add a Printer button.

2. Fast forward to the part where I choose to connect via USB.

3. Error shows up saying I need to connect my USB or make sure the printer is powered on.

I've already tried the following troubleshooting steps I found in another thread:

If the printer driver does not detect the printer while connecting the USB cable, try these tips and procedures to help troubleshoot and avoid USB connectivity issues.

  • Restart the printer and the computer: Restarting the computer and the printer can clear possible error conditions.
  • Reconnect the cable: Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer.
  • Connect to a different USB port: Connect the cable to a different USB port on the computer.
  • Disconnect from a USB hub or docking station: If you are using a USB hub or docking station, try connecting the cable directly to the computer.
  • Try a different USB cable: Use a different USB cable. HP supports USB cables less than 3 m (9 ft 10 in) in length.

But still no go.

I couldn't find a proper driver online and links always lead me to installing the HP Smart app.

Hi @dsa05,

I'd like to help!

I understand you are unable to set up the printer via USB.

Try the below suggestions

First, uninstall HP smart from your mac os.

  1. please delete from /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/HP Smart. Then delete HP Smart from the Applications folder and reinstall from the Mac App Store.

If the issue persists,

Make sure the cable is directly connected between the Mac and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended.

Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

  1. You may check this in System Information > Applications>utilities folder
  2. You can also hold down the option key and click on the Apple at the top left of the screen to get to System Information
  3.  Click System Report.
  4.   Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB. USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus

Download and install HP Easy start from here (Software utility tab)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
