Hi, 

 

I have a HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn printer that I am trying to install on my laptop via USB and unfortunatelly the process fails at 99% on 'Connect product' phase' with the error message 'process has timed out'.

Repro steps:

- Download driver HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a, M401d, M401n, M401dn, N404dw Printer Full Software and Drivers 

- Run > Prepare for install > check

- Connect printer via USB > check > loads up to 99%

- process moves to Install > No > Fails due to time out 

 

Things that I've tried:

- Run Basic install, Universal Printer, PS, PCL6, No install drivers - the printer is being recognised by it does not want to move forward. 

- Run installer on W10 laptop that has the latest Windows Updates

- Run installer on W10 laptop that does not have the latest updates/version installed

- Run installer on W7 laptop with latest updates

- Run installer on W10 PC

- Run installer as admin

- change USB cable

- change printer with the same model

Nothing from the above attempts worked. 

 

Could you please let me know what am I missing?

Did the driver change somehow?

Also please do follow the instructions given inorder for a successful download and installation: 

 

(Note: Do not connect the USB cable until prompted.) 

1. Close any software programs running on your computer 
2. Turn on the printer. 
3. Click on the 'Download' button on this page. 
4. Click 'Run'. The file will be downloaded to a temporary folder on your PC. 
5. Click 'Run' again. The files will be extracted and the installation process will automatically start. 
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with and complete the installation. 

To install at a later date, select 'Save' on step 4 and select a location on your hard disk. When ready to install, locate and double-click the file. This will automatically extract and start the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the installation.
