HP 9135e Inkjet Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a new HP 9135e. I am attempting to print a mailing label, which is a standard USPS mailing label used for priority mail. It is size 4.3" x 5.5". I put the label  in tray 1 (top tray); then the printer requires me to select the size of the new paper ... and I select custom, since there is no 4.3" x 5.5" in the list of selections. The word document correctly shows paper size to be 4.3" x 5.5" .

When I print, the printer says "The paper size detected by the printer (Custom) in Tray 1 does not match the size selected for the job (Letter (8.5x11 in)). Touch “Print” to use the loaded paper or “Cancel” to cancel the job."

So, I hit “Print”. Then the printer says  "The paper in Tray 1 is smaller than the size selected for the job (Custom). The job will be canceled." And the job gets canceled.

So, I am unable to print on the mailing label, using the HP 9135 E. But then immediately after, if I attempt to print on my HP 6978, the label prints just fine.

How can I get this label to print on my new HP 9135e?

P.S., When paper is added to the HP 6978, HP6978 does not ask you to specify paper size. But when paper is added to HP 9135e, the HP 9135e asks you to specify paper size. It seems HP 6978 has no problem printing the 4.3" x 5.5". But as previously explained, HP 9135e seems  to have problem printing on 4.3" x 5.5" (since it is not on the menu).

On HP 9135e, after selecting "Custom" for paper size, is there a way to specify  4.3" x 5.5" ?

@printstar, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Set Custom Paper Size in Windows 11:

Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.

Select your HP 9135e and click Manage > Printing Preferences.

Under Paper Size, select Custom or User Defined.

Set the size to 4.3" x 5.5".

Save the settings and try printing again.

Check the Tray Setup:

Make sure Tray 1 is adjusted to fit the 4.3" x 5.5" label correctly.

Define Paper Size on Printer’s Control Panel:

On the printer’s screen, when it asks for Custom paper size, enter 4.3" x 5.5".

Set Custom Paper Size in Word:

In Word, go to Layout > Size > More Paper Sizes.

Set Width to 4.3" and Height to 5.5".

Save and try printing.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
