Hi, I am trying to set up a new printer. It successfully attached to the Wi-Fi and obtains the up address. After this I constantly get an error to say can’t link to my account.
I have tried to register the printer on the support assistant but it doesn’t recognise the serial number on the bottom of the printer.
driving me mad after numerous attempts.
Devices can’t find the printer when attempting to print.
I am on the point of returning it!

Hi @Topographic,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are unable to set up a new printer HP Deskjet 2710e. .
setting up your new HP Deskjet 2710e has been a frustrating experience for you. Let's try to troubleshoot the issue step by step:
Double-check your Wi-Fi connection:
- Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or device.
- Ensure that the Wi-Fi signal is strong and stable.
Ensure the printer is online:
- Check if your printer is turned on and not in sleep mode.
- Verify that there are no error messages or issues displayed on the printer's control panel.
Printer Registration:
- Make sure you are entering the correct serial number when trying to register the printer. The serial number is usually located on a sticker on the back or bottom of the printer.
- Ensure there are no typos or errors in the serial number.
HP Support Assistant:
- If the HP Support Assistant is not recognizing the serial number, you may want to check for any software updates for the Support Assistant or try using a different web browser.
Check Firewall/Antivirus settings:
- Sometimes, security software can interfere with the connection. Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus software and see if you can register the printer. Remember to enable it again after testing.
Manually add the printer on your computer:
- Go to your computer's settings or control panel.
- Add a new printer manually and enter the printer's IP address (which you can find on the printer's settings).
- This may help your computer recognize the printer on the network.
Update Firmware:
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
