Well I got notification from HP Support Assistant to update my printer firmware so the answer is yes I was told by HP to update my software. I am now being told by HP that there is no software to update.

Was there any new firmware for the printer to begin with?

 

Anyway, check out this resource to update from the control panel:

Also, please make sure to check the Status column on the Printer Update utility, if it is listed as Up-To-Date, the Update button is grayed out as the printer already have the latest firmware installed.
