Hi

I am about to through the printer out the window .... I have tried updating the software for this printer and it gives the installation error message of

"Call to DriverPackageUninstall returned error 5 for package ... A caller of DriverPackageUninstall must be a member of the Administrators group to install a driver package."

I am the Administrator for my PC.  After a bit of fiddling about in the command area I have also logged in as the hidden Administrator and tried running again - same error.  Thus proving not Windows 10 but HP problem.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @BugsyDuvet

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Are you trying to update the firmware of the printer?

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your computer.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Alternatively, on the printer screen, go to Setup > Tools > Update printer.

Create a new user account on the PC to check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Hi Kumar307

I have tried creating a new PC user called Admin and the problem persists.

I've just checked using the printer itself and it says there are no new software updates available.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the printer on the pc.  The pc can see the printer but nothing prints.  Also it only shows manual duplexing in the printer options but I know it does automatic duplexing.

As I say, I'm getting annoyed with it now! 😞

Any other suggestions?

Thanks, Bugsy

Let us try these steps:

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing in color.

If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how. Try printing.

Let me know how this goes.

@kumar0307

I followed all your instructions and nothing is fixing the problem.  The pc can see the printer but will not print.

I even tried stopping and starting the print spooler and then restarting the laptop.

It always goes back to the software problem which thinks i'm not the administrator.

I know the printer is 5 years old now but ...

Hello

I seem to have solved it myself ...

Went into Device Manager, found the printer and updated the driver.

Tried a print and it worked!

At least I can print now but may still have firmware problem if I try to update which I will try another day.
