I have quite a small issue, but it's causing a big inconvenience for workflow and efficiency.
The below is in regards to scanning documents from my HP Laser Jet printer, to my MacBook Air using the HP Smart Desktop app. I used to be able to include periods in the file names, but now it won't let me and I have to go in and change the file name after I save it to my desktop. I've tried to go through settings to see if there's something toggled for file naming that restricts the characters that can be used, but I can't find anything. If anyone know I'd greatly appreciate it.

@dddddd7007, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding File Naming Issue with HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw and HP Smart Desktop App!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It seems that you're experiencing a file naming limitation when scanning documents from your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw to your MacBook Air using the HP Smart Desktop app. The inability to include periods in file names might be due to recent updates or changes in the app's settings or operating system file naming conventions. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Check HP Smart Desktop App Settings:
- Open the HP Smart Desktop app.
- Navigate to the settings or preferences area within the app.
- Look for any options related to file naming or file save settings that could restrict the use of certain characters.
MacOS File Naming Restrictions:
- Ensure that MacOS updates have not changed file naming conventions. Periods can be used in MacOS, but if there's an error message, double-check that the problem is not originating from the MacOS side.
HP Smart App Update:
- Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart Desktop app. Software updates might address this file naming issue.
- Check for updates within the app or visit the HP website to manually download the latest version.
Reinstall the HP Smart App:
- If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the HP Smart Desktop app to reset any changed configurations.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
