I'm trying to help a friend with their HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw put it is password protected and they don;t know the PW. I am not able to config anything either via the front 2 line option screen or via the EWS without being prompted for a PW.

I tried admin, Admin, ADMIN, 1234, 12345678, 0000 with no success. I have also researched how to reset to factory default but have not been successful. I need the procedure to reset this printer to factory default that does not involVe selections from the front panel or EWS..

Help would be greatly appreciated

Hello Chiefton,

I was given the procedure below from HP support to reset the printer to factory default and it worked exactly as it was supposed to. When the printer is at factory default you will not be prompted for a PW when you attempt to do a config.

Please be aware that this worked for my printer which is a "HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw".

Here's the procedure copied form the message sent to me:    Good Luck

Follow these steps to perform an NVRAM reset on the printer.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the “Right Arrow” + “Cancel” (X) button, keep the button depressed as you turn the product on.
  • When the ‘Permanent Storage Init.’ Message appears on the display, release the button.
  • When the super NVRAM init has been completed, the device will return to the ready.

Turned out to be a different process for mine but thank you anyway.
