HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am unable to utilize all of the control panel options as displayed on the printer local display screen.

I have lost/forgotten the username and password that was used for locking the control panel options as the control panel options were never requited to be used after locking for the past two years, hence lost/forgotten.

Now i need to access the control panel options in order to make some changes on account of relocation to another place with a new internet connection (Wi-Fi).

How to know the forgotten username and reset the forgotten control panel password?

Thank you for the solution provided.

It worked like charm!

I have successfully unlocked the printer control panel and now can access all settings through the printer control panel.

However, how do I provide a username and password again to lock the contorl panel? I could not locate an option to set a username and password in settings.

You do not need to set a user name password to unlock the control panel and it is not recommended to do so unless you are using the printer in a public area like office

I have the same problem(?) on my 8720.  I replaced my wireless modem but my 8720 wont let me into the wireless wizard, says it was locked out by me(?)   What do I do next?

Suggesting the following steps for you to try with your printer 8720, based on my experience with HP OfficejetPro 6970.

Are you able to connect the printer using the supplied USB cable to your PC/Laptop?

If yes --> Login (admin) to the printer management console from your PC/Laptop and navigate to "Security --> Administrator Settings --> Enable/Disable Features".

If this page exists for your printer then scroll down the table with Printer Features until you locate an entry "Control Panel Lock" or something similar.

Uncheck the selection box for this entry, save and exit.

Try the wireless settings from printer control panel. It should be unlocked and allow changes now.

Good luck!

Great care to share it to me? Same issue. Changed wifi [password and I'm locked out of everything on the printer. Connecting via USB is still locked out.
