HP PageWide Pro MFP 777z
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi community,

I believe a recent Windows update has resulted in a problem with my HP PageWide Pro MFP 777z driver. I can no longer print and have reinstalled the full printer softwatre from the HP website multiple times. On each install it seems to work all the way through then at the end says "This printer is not installed. To install a printer, click the HP folder in the Start Menu, click the printer name, and then click Connect a New Printer". Although there is no 'printer name' in the HP folder in the start menu. Also I get the following perhaps more telling message "HP PageWide Pro MFP 772-777z PCL-6 (V4) An error occured during installation of the device. The driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate mannor...". However I am downloading directly from the HP site by looking up my printer. I'm just a home user and not an overly technical person. I have tried googling the issue and have found instructions on disabling driver signiture verification to install unsigned drivers but would think this driver would be ok being from the HP site.

Hope you can advise!

Kind regards,

K

Disclaimer:

Laser printers, those built after about 1990, are a mystery to me.  I admit that I do not always "hit the mark" in this area.

OK...

The following might help - I am not sure it covers the "driver signature" bits - this message might just be part of the general failure of the software to fully uninstall (before reinstallation), or it might be significant in and of itself.

The procedure should work - and won't make things any worse.

If you have not done so, and AFTER you get the software intalled and working - consider updating the Firmware.

Topic:  Printer does not Install on Local Network Contributed by ShlomiL

NOTE: This procedure is not directly related to File System corruption caused by Windows Updates.
Removing the device(s) from the Device Manager may be necessary regardless of the underlying cause
of the original problem. If the Printers, Imaging Devices, and WSD categories in the Device Manager
are clear (no printer listed), it is likely that this procedure does not apply.

Paraphrased solution
• Open the Control Panel > Programs and Features, Uninstall the printer, Restart
• Start the installation
If the printer balks at the network step during installation of the printer software,
• Cancel the installation – leave install window open
• Open the Device Manager and delete / remove the printer and any “unknown device” from
relevant categories, leave the Device Manager open
• Retry the installation

Details solution

1. Open the Control Panel > Programs and Features, Uninstall the printer software
a) After the software is uninstalled, Restart the computer and log in.

2. Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Remove /Delete instances of the printer

3. While the software tries to install > Right-Click the Start Menu (Windows) icon > select Device Manager
a) Expand category 'Printers'
b) Delete any listed instance(s) of your printer model or Unknown Device: Right-Click and select Uninstall
c) Expand category ‘Imaging Devices’
d) Delete any listed instance(s) of your printer model or Unknown Device: Right-Click and select Uninstall
e) Leave the Device Manager open

4. Open the printer software and select Connect a New Printer
a) For Wired Connection: Select Wired Network, select printer, click Next
b) For Wireless Connection: Select Wireless, select printer, click Next

5. On the Printer installation screen:
a) Click Cancel to stop the installation
b) Allow 20-30 seconds to cancel the installation and return to the “connection type” screen.
c) Repeat the steps again to select your printer and complete the network installation

6. If the installation hangs
a) Repeat at Step 3, this time expanding and removing the printer from Device Manager > WSD
Print Provider
b) Continue the installation
