Mac Studio with Sequoia 15.6.1 and HP Office Jet Pro 8710.

Two days ago, using an earlier version of Sequoia, I was printing normally. Just fine. No issues.  Updated my computer OS and now jobs won't print.  No error messages.

The job goes to the print que.  I immediately get a message that the job's printed, except that it hasn't.  The printer and computer are talking to each other because the printer makes the noise that it is starting to print, but stops. Thinking perhaps WiFi was the problem, I connected my computer and printer via a cable. Same result.  Whether WiFi or hardwired, the computer definitely sees the printer.  I'm also unable to print from my iPhone running iOS 18.6.2.

I've checked the cords. I've turned the printer on and off.  I've removed the printer from the computer several times and reinstalled it. I've checked for driver updates (nothing for Apple products). I've looked online for compatibility issues between Sequoia and the HP 8710 (nothing).  I've unplugged the printer for 18 hours hoping that the printer fairies would fix it.

My printer is too old to qualify for HP Support unless I pay $99.  If I'm going to invest $99, I may as well buy a new printer.

Very frustrating because the HP Office Jet Pro 8710 is a work horse.  Although it's older, it's been working great and I don't want to replace it.

I have the same issue following the Sequoia 15.6.1 update, but my printer is a HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M281fdw (purchased in 2019). Printer tries to print and then gives this error message: "79 service error turn off then on"

Job shows in print queue but won't print. Have updated firmware on printer, removed and reinstalled printer, switched off and on, restarted laptop etc. I am able to print test reports and it is definitely connected to wifi.

Despite much searching, can't find whether there is new complaint software or new drivers needed. Also loathe to pay for HP support.

Thanks Liz4655 for your reply.  I'm sorry that you're having the problem too.  My print is circa 2018 or 2019 too.  I've also update the printer software and nothing.

Any idea how to make HP aware of this issue?

I'm not sure how to make HP aware without paying for their support service, but I think I have managed to solve the problem by using a generic driver.

After Googling once more, I came across this advice which I tried:

Use a Generic Driver:
If specific drivers aren't available, you can add the printer and select a generic PostScript or PCL printer from the "Use" dropdown menu in the Add Printer window.

I accessed this from System Settings>Printers & Scanners and found that choosing "Generic PCL printer" worked for me.

Thanks for the info.  I tried what you suggested but it didn't work.  I did it a few different ways, turning the print/computer off/on,  but nothing work.  I aprreciate you sharing what worked for you and hope that you continue to print well.

Also - I never receive an error message.  In fact, the print que says the job has printed when it has not.
