OMG what a useless waste of time.I got a new ASUS laptop with and upgraded my tower system to windows 10

Everything was fine then got to Windows 10 and now my hp officejet Pro 8710 will not stay or get connected.asit has printed once then it seems to forget the link or is possessed.

I have followed every listed HP fix connecting via wired and then wireless and Ethernet

The printer is listed as approved for Windows 10

The HP Smart process does not resolve the issue

The Print Scan Doctor failed as well

Of course the "warranty" no longer provides any help as its out of warranty which is ridiculous.

If your help systems are (it seems set up to fail)  why can't a live body be available to resolve whatever.

Hopefully someone has the silver bullet or whatever to help resolve my concerns.

I am not sure I understand all of what you mean here - it may not matter as long as you have not migrated to Windows 2004.

I cannot address your frustration, of course.   "We" are just people volunteering to help as best we can.

What to do?

I think you do need to uninstall the printer software and start over.

If you don't want to do that, you need to change the connection type to TCP/IP (which may be enough).

Method - Create TCP IP port

Find printer's IP /  IPv4 address

Print a Configuration Page

OR

Tap on the wireless icon on Printer Control Panel

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer > Left-Click Printer Properties

Select Tab Ports  > Add Port

Select Standard TCP/IP Port > New Port and follow the wizard.
Use / Enter IP address for the printer.

Example - How-to “Create TCP Port” Contributed by greenturtle

Video:  Create & Use TCP IP port
“Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)”

What else?

In some cases, this version of the doctor will take care of finding and properly installing the software and fix the connection issue(s).

Offline Doctor V5.0.6

  HPPSdr_5.0.6.exe

  • Download and Save the doctor to your computer
  • Open File Explorer > Navigate to the folder in which you saved the file (likely Downloads)
  • Execute the doctor – Answer any prompts /  let the process complete
  • Restart the computer, log in, and wait for the final steps in the Doctor to finish.
  • Check for any difference.

NOTES – Contributed by ShlomiL

Paraphrased

Connection Issues

  • Print and Scan Doctor Version 5.0.6 creates a secondary queue for printing with TCP/IP port.

Loss of Color Printing

  • If the color printing is not yet offered, try printing using the newly added print queue.
  • Verify results, then set the newly added printer as the default.

Details: Windows10 - No Color option available when printing to a network connected printer

Check

If necessary, Adjust the “Default” printing device (Default Printer)

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer NOT marked as “Scan Only / DO NOT DELETE”

Set printer as Default

Example – Printers listed in Devices and Printers

Set “Default” Printer = HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series PCL-3

NOT Default = Scan Only -HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series PCL-3 (Network)-DO NOT DELETE
