May I use an OfficeJet Pro 8035e printer WITHOUT using HP SMART app?  I do not want the printer to be connected to the wifi to use it - is it necessary for it to be on wifi (or ethernet) in order to print or scan?  (I never fax).

I may return it if I can't use it local without a printer-to-internet connection.

Hi @NMB-wi,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you want to if you can use an OfficeJet Pro 8035e printer WITHOUT using HP SMART app

Yes, you can use the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e All-in-One Printer without the HP Smart app, and without connecting it to Wi-Fi or Ethernet for local printing and scanning. Here's how you can achieve that:

1. USB Connection (Local Printing and Scanning)

  • You can connect the printer directly to your Windows 10 computer using a USB cable. This will allow you to print and scan locally without requiring an internet connection or the HP Smart app.
  • Ensure that you install the necessary drivers for the printer:
    • You can download the drivers from the HP Support website (search for the OfficeJet Pro 8035e drivers).
    • During installation, choose the USB connection option instead of the wireless or network options.

2. Using Built-in Windows Drivers

  • Windows 10 often has built-in drivers for HP printers, which means you can use basic print and scan functions without installing any additional software like the HP Smart app. To check if your printer is recognized:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Click Add a Printer, and Windows should automatically detect the printer when connected via USB.

3. Optional HP Scan Software HP printers - Scan with HP Scan and Capture (Windows)

  • If you want more advanced scanning features (like saving files in different formats or adjusting resolution), you can download and install the HP Scan and Capture software from the Microsoft Store or the HP website. This software works independently from HP Smart.

Key Points:

  • Wi-Fi or Ethernet are not required for local printing and scanning via USB.
  • You don't need to use the HP Smart app if you're not interested in features like remote printing, cloud storage, or ink management.

If you're primarily printing and scanning locally, this setup should work for you without requiring an internet connection for the printer.

Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e All-in-One Printer User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
