I have just bought an HP printer, the Deskjet 3730. It is up and running wirelessly using my laptop. My laptop has internet capability, and is online.
I also have a home office desktop PC which happily runs Windows 98, using the same software bought when it was built (by me) in 1997. I have never connected it to the internet, and never intend to either, consequently it boots up in 25 seconds by virtue of the fact that it has never received bloated 'updates'.
The HP laserjet 6L previously connected to it has expired (or at least it seems to have had a falling out with the PC and it's D25 parallel/Centronics port). I would like to connect my new printer to my old PC via a USB cable, but note that HP does not provide any drivers for the Windows 98 OS...a bit short sighted maybe! When I used the CDROM supplied with the printer it merely advised me to update my version of Windows, and refused to continue. Outrageous behaviour, IMO.
Will anyone be able and willing to suggest a suitable driver to allow Windows 98 to print to my HP3730 printer via USB, even if only text (I use Microsoft Word on the old desktop PC, though at only 20 years it's unfair to call it old, it's hardly run in.
Regards, Victor Meldrew.

The latest printers to support a such are now at least 10-15 years old, you will not find any current HP printer to wotk on such outdated operating system and I doubt you will find any curent printer of any manufacturer to support a such...
