Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello all

I have a Dell inspiron1525 (which i use as a secondary laptop) with Windows 10 pro installed that can print to my old HP LaserJet M1120 MFP.

My Dell runs a bit slow, even though all I'm doing is having a couple of browsers up, several Open Officw writers up, and some pdfs up. It has dual 2.17GHz and 4GB ram.

I'm looking to upgrade my secondary laptop with a refurbished one. But I want it to detect my laser jet and be able to print to it. Any suggestions?

The M1120 MFP has both 32 and 64 bit drivers for 7,8 and windows 10.  Windows 11 uses the 10 drivers.

The M1120 has USB only

The M1120n has both USB and Ethernet.

Connectivity
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port, Ethernet port (HP LaserJet M1120n models only)

My primary problem is that some laptops newer than my Dell inspiron 1525 don't even detect my printer. I was looking for suggestions for an up grade from my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop to a newer refurbished laptop that will also detect my HP Laser Jet M1120 MFP.

(As I don't have an extensive background in computer technology, I would greatly appreciate any detailed explanations.)

Thanks

If the printer is connected to the network router through an ethernet cable, then any laptop, desktop or smart phone can "find" the printer as soon as the laptop, desktop or smart phone  is connected to the router.  Either through Wi-Fi or ethernet wiring.

You enter "printer" in the windows search box and then click on "add printer"
If windows does not have the printer drive then it needs to be downloaded.  Typically windows had simple printer drivers but the printer manufacturer will have full feature drivers that include fax and scan.

I assume you have the M1120n which has both USB and an Ethernet port and you have the printer wired to the router.

This manual shows how to set up the network but the images are typical of windows xp.

The following is windows 10

start with "printer"

after pressing enter ---

Then click the +

The above only works if the printer is on the router.  You should install the windows 10 full feature driver AFTER the printer has been "found".  There seem to be firmware updates that you could also install.  See below for drivers (win10x64 if needed) and firmware
