I have a n HP8710 Printer that is approximately 5 years old.  It has always done a good job.

I got a new laptop HP Envy in January.  Printing of envelopes has always worked until the last 45 days.

Now, the printer seems to not be recieving the information correctly.

The text would print _-_-_- as a straight line (all all alphabet has a similar displacement).

It also simingly flips the envelope from what is shown.

And, finally it prints a line at the top of the envelope.

Any ideas?  Is this a driver issue?  Is it the age of the printer?  I am scheduled to purchase a new one this year end.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Brian3456,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Yes, you are correct, This could be the age of the printer and the driver compatibility.

What is the current OS you are using?

Update the drivers and firmware according using this link by putting the serial number.

  • Try some different envelopes - paper might be too dry, too thick, damp (yes, can be a thing), curled, or otherwise unsuitable.
  • If the envelopes are usually stored "away from the printer" (in a different location/environment), let the envelopes sit in the printer (or next to it) for a period of time before you print.  This is another of those "too dry / too damp" references.  Paper is sensitive to its environment.  An older printer might be more sensitive to the vagaries of the paper used for printing.
  • You could try moving the delivery address area slightly to be higher on the envelope or perhaps a bit to the left.  Doing so won't help unless there is an actual "spot" in the printable area that would benefit from the change.

If this does not help then the printer needs to be checked.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
