A model number would have been good information to include. If you happen to have a model that users Futuresmart 4 or 5 firmware, log into the EWS of the printer and go to the highlighted section and change the default to single sided.
Pro models will be slightly different but it is a similar procedure to turn off the duplex default that can be set on the printer itself, which overrides any driver settings.
