When trying to print from my HP laptop to my HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e series, the printer shows idle on my laptop but is showing ready from the printer and my smart app. I have no problem printing from my phone.

@EdytheAnn, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Check Printer Connection on Your Laptop
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e series.
Click Manage > Printer properties.
Under the Ports tab, check if the selected port is:
WSD or network IP port for Wi-Fi connections.
USB if directly connected.
If it's a WSD port, that can sometimes cause communication issues. Try setting it to a Standard TCP/IP port instead.
Change to Standard TCP/IP Port
Get your printer's IP address (from the printer touchscreen > Settings > Network Information).
On your laptop:
Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Ports tab > Add Port.
Select Standard TCP/IP Port > New Port.
Enter the printer’s IP address.
Finish the setup and make sure this new port is selected.
Reinstall the Printer Driver
Uninstall the printer from Settings > Devices > Printers.
Restart your computer.
Go to the HP support site and search for OfficeJet Pro 9120e series.
Download and install the Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
