HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to install latest PCL 6 driver version  7.3.0.25919 for M227fdw printer.  The previous driver had a nice exe file Driver_upd-pcl6-x64-7.2.0.25780.exe.  This new driver only has a zip file.  In the zip file, I execute install.exe, it can't find my printer automatically, so I select the USB port it is on, I select I have a disk (the zip file), and if then asks me to select one of the many INF files.  Which INF file do I select?

Hi @OldITGuyinTexas, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

For the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw PCL 6 driver version 7.3.0.25919, follow these steps to manually install the correct INF file:

Steps to Install the Driver:

  1. Extract the ZIP File

    • Right-click on the downloaded ZIP file and select Extract All to a location such as C:\HP_LaserJet_Driver\.
  2. Identify the INF File

    • Inside the extracted folder, navigate to ...\Driver\.
    • Look for an .INF file that matches your printer model.
    • The correct INF file should be "hpljpcl6.inf" (or similar).
  3. Manually Install the Driver

    • Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
    • Expand Printers or Unknown Devices (if the printer is not listed).
    • Right-click your HP LaserJet MFP M227fdw, select Update Driver.
    • Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
    • Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
    • Select Have Disk, then browse to the extracted driver folder (C:\HP_LaserJet_Driver\Driver\).
    • Select hpljpcl6.inf and proceed with installation.

Additional Notes:

  • If you see multiple INF files, check the hpljpcl6.inf file first, as it should be the correct one for PCL 6 drivers.
  • If installation fails, check for a setup.exe or install.exe inside the extracted folder and try running it with Administrator privileges.

I hope this helps. Take care and have a good day.
