I am looking into buying a printer, I want to switch from Brother MFC T920DW to an HP printer. I looked on HP's website and specifically at their products and I saw the 4100- product line of printers that meet my needs. However, I saw indications that this product line might be outdated, can anyone confirm if the model is going to be discontinued or if its end-of-life? If it is EOL does anyone know of a similar HP printer model that is alternative/can substitute this one?

Hi @Feli123,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

You mentioned that you are looking to switch from the Brother MFC-T920DW to an HP printer and were considering the HP 4100 series, but are concerned it might be outdated.

Information:

The HP LaserJet 4100 series is discontinued and has reached End of Life (EOL). Support and parts are no longer available, so it is not recommended to purchase this model.

HP Smart Tank 790 All-in-One – Ideal for high-volume printing. Large ink tank, wireless and mobile printing, designed for business or heavy use.

HP Smart Tank 670 All-in-One – Home office friendly, reliable performance, cost-effective ink system, compact design.

HP Smart Tank 5105 All-in-One – Budget-friendly, suitable for personal or light printing needs, basic functions with good print quality.

High-volume/business use: HP Smart Tank 790

Home office / moderate use: HP Smart Tank 670

Light/personal use: HP Smart Tank 5105

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your thoughtful response to my post!

I saw product availability for the HP LaserJet 4103 on the HP site as well as other stores that sell HP products. Therefore, I do not understand your response where you state that the entire HP LaserJet 4100 series is already considered EOL and all product parts are no longer available for purchasing.
Can you please explain what you meant in further detail? When was the 4100 series deemed EOL? Is HP still selling the 4100 printers it has in stock even though the series is EOL?

Hi @Feli123,

Thank you for your follow-up and for pointing this out. I understand the confusion, so let me clarify:

The HP LaserJet 4100 series (originally released years ago) has indeed been discontinued and reached End of Life (EOL). That’s the model I was referring to in my earlier reply.

What you’re seeing available now, such as the HP LaserJet Pro 4103, is a different, newer generation of printers under a similar naming convention. The 4103 and other current models in the 4100 product family are actively being sold and supported by HP.

To put it simply:

The older HP LaserJet 4100 series (legacy) is EOL.

The HP LaserJet Pro 4100 series (e.g., 4103) is a current lineup and is fully supported.

So if you are considering the HP LaserJet Pro 4103, you can go ahead with confidence, it is not discontinued.

I hope this helps.
